The debate continues! Was Henry Cejudo’s split from Coach Albarracin staged, or did the Olympic champ actually decide to mix it up this fight camp? Additional details emerge on this episode of UFC Embedded.
Episode Highlights
- Geoff Neal made his UFC 298 Embedded series debut by showing off his suitcase held together by packaging tape – the same bag that was with him when he made his UFC debut on February 18, 2018.
- Eric Albarracin and Henry Cejudo reunited at the athlete hotel with a big embrace. Cejudo’s opening words, “we got ’em,” reignited discussions about the coach’s controversial “firing” that was featured in the UFC 298 Countdown video. On The MMA Hour “cap” Albarracin clarified that the layoff was “as real as it gets,” noting that he had not seen Henry since the Countdown was filmed. Albarracin’s alibi seems bulletproof – he recalled resenting the fact that he would have to leave Patricio Pitbull and Paulo Costa to help Henry with fight camp because “no matter what goes on, I’ll drop anything for Henry.” A semi-emotional Albarracin was cheered up by Paulo Costa, who chimed in, “there’s no problem… this guy is the best coach of MMA.”
- Alexander Volkanovski confronted Cejudo at the poster signing in classic Volk fashion. Cejudo’s response, “what do you think,” seems to further support the notion that his split with Albarracin was not merely staged for the cameras. Volk seemed to take Cejudo at his word, though: “I knew it! There’s no way he’s done that… but if he did, he’s a piece of sh*t. I did say that!”
